Hallmark Ottawa computers are set up automatically by Microsoft Intune using Windows Autopilot. After a computer is registered, a reset installs the standard apps and settings with no manual setup.
This baseline covers every Client Room and Bullpen computer. Staff computers may need a few extra apps afterwards.
A Microsoft 365 admin account with the Intune Administrator role.
A wired or Wi-Fi internet connection.
The computer turned on and sitting at the Windows "Let's set things up" / region selection screen. For a computer that is already set up, see Computer already set up? below.
Sign in with your Microsoft 365 admin account when asked. The first time, you may also need to approve a permissions request.
Wait. The script uploads the computer's hardware ID and waits until a deployment profile is assigned (-Assign). This usually takes 5–15 minutes, so leave the window open until it finishes.
If the computer is already past the first setup screens, register it from inside Windows instead:
Open PowerShell as administrator (right-click Start → Terminal (Admin)) and run the same three commands as in step 1.
When the script finishes, reset the computer: Settings → System → Recovery → Reset PC → Remove everything → Cloud download → Next → Reset.
After the reset, continue from 2. Finish the setup.
Older method: you may see instructions to create a local "Temp" account with start ms-cxh:localonly first. Microsoft is removing that workaround from new Windows releases, and the method above doesn't need it.
In intune.microsoft.com, go to Devices → Enrollment → Windows → Devices (under Windows Autopilot). The computer's serial number should be listed with a profile status of Assigned.
After setup, the device appears under Devices → Windows with compliance Compliant.
